Job Summary: Work Whale Essential is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing various accounting tasks, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and accounts reconciliation. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and accounting principles.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, and other financial accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing relevant financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Support the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory reports in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external auditors during audits and reviews, providing requested documentation and addressing inquiries.
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in accounting operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or similar).
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with ERP systems is a plus.
