Job Description

This role involves creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that fosters the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Child Supervision and Safety:
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
    • Monitor children’s activities to ensure they are safe and interact appropriately.
    • Respond to emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
  • Daily Care:
    • Assist children with daily routines including eating, dressing, toileting, and napping.
    • Prepare and serve meals and snacks that meet nutritional guidelines.
    • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of children and the childcare environment.
  • Developmental Activities:
    • Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
    • Encourage and support the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
    • Read to children, teach simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
  • Communication and Reporting:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians about their child’s progress, needs, and any concerns.
    • Keep accurate records of each child’s activities, behavior, and developmental milestones.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to childcare.
  • Environment Maintenance:
    • Ensure the childcare area is clean, organized, and well-maintained.
    • Set up and clean up after activities.
    • Ensure that toys and equipment are in good working condition and report any damages.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in early childhood development is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children in a professional setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry children and items weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel frequently.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as running, jumping, and playing with children.

Work Environment:

  • Childcare providers typically work in childcare centers, preschools, or private homes.
  • The work environment can be noisy and may require dealing with challenging behaviors from children.
  • Childcare providers must be prepared to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
