Job Description
This role involves creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that fosters the physical, emotional, and intellectual growth of children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Child Supervision and Safety:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
- Monitor children’s activities to ensure they are safe and interact appropriately.
- Respond to emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
- Daily Care:
- Assist children with daily routines including eating, dressing, toileting, and napping.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks that meet nutritional guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of children and the childcare environment.
- Developmental Activities:
- Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
- Encourage and support the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
- Read to children, teach simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians about their child’s progress, needs, and any concerns.
- Keep accurate records of each child’s activities, behavior, and developmental milestones.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to childcare.
- Environment Maintenance:
- Ensure the childcare area is clean, organized, and well-maintained.
- Set up and clean up after activities.
- Ensure that toys and equipment are in good working condition and report any damages.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in early childhood development is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children in a professional setting.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine love for working with children.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry children and items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel frequently.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as running, jumping, and playing with children.
Work Environment:
- Childcare providers typically work in childcare centers, preschools, or private homes.
- The work environment can be noisy and may require dealing with challenging behaviors from children.
- Childcare providers must be prepared to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.
