Job Description
This role includes compounding, dispensing, and distributing medications as well as managing pharmacy inventory and providing customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Medication Dispensing:
- Accurately prepare and dispense prescription medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Label and package medications in compliance with legal and professional standards.
- Verify patient information and prescriptions for accuracy and completeness.
- Customer Service:
- Provide exceptional customer service, answering questions and addressing concerns from patients and healthcare providers.
- Assist customers with over-the-counter medications and other healthcare products.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain and manage pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
- Conduct regular inventory checks to ensure the availability of essential medications and products.
- Dispose of expired or damaged medications following proper protocols.
- Administrative Duties:
- Enter and update patient and prescription information in the pharmacy’s database system.
- Process insurance claims and handle billing tasks related to prescription medications.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all transactions and activities within the pharmacy.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Ensure the pharmacy environment is clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Assist in the training and supervision of pharmacy interns and other support staff.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a pharmacy technician certification program preferred.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential preferred.
- State licensure as a Pharmacy Technician if required by the state of employment.
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or in a similar role preferred.
- Experience with pharmacy software systems and technology is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a healthcare team.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics and pharmaceutical calculations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to operate pharmacy equipment and handle medications.
