Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tree biology, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tree Maintenance and Care: Perform pruning, trimming, and shaping of trees and shrubs to promote healthy growth and enhance appearance.
  • Planting and Transplanting: Select appropriate species for planting, ensuring proper techniques for planting and transplanting trees and shrubs.
  • Disease and Pest Management: Diagnose tree diseases and pest infestations; develop and implement treatment plans to preserve tree health.
  • Tree Removal: Safely and efficiently remove dead, dying, or hazardous trees using appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls for storm-damaged or hazardous trees, ensuring public safety.
  • Consultation and Planning: Provide expert advice on tree selection, planting locations, and landscape design; collaborate with landscape architects and city planners.
  • Education and Outreach: Educate the public on tree care best practices and the benefits of urban forestry.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of tree care activities, treatments, and inspections.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols; ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; degree or certification in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in arboriculture or a related field.
  • Certifications: ISA Certified Arborist or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in tree care techniques, including pruning, cabling, bracing, and tree removal.
    • Knowledge of tree biology, species identification, and soil science.
    • Ability to diagnose and treat tree diseases and pest issues.
    • Competence in using arborist tools and equipment such as chainsaws, pruners, and chippers.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness to perform climbing, lifting, and other strenuous activities.
  • Comfortable working at heights and operating machinery.
