Job Description
The Food Scientist will be responsible for developing and improving food products, ensuring they meet both company standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves conducting research, performing experiments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative and high-quality food products to market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and Development:
- Develop new food products and improve existing ones through innovative research and experimentation.
- Conduct sensory evaluations and consumer testing to refine product formulations.
- Stay up-to-date with food science advancements and industry trends.
- Product Testing and Quality Assurance:
- Perform chemical, physical, and microbiological testing on food products to ensure safety and quality.
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve product quality issues in collaboration with QA/QC teams.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure all products comply with local, national, and international food safety regulations.
- Prepare and review documentation for regulatory submissions.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities as needed.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with marketing, production, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless product development and launch.
- Provide technical support and expertise to other departments.
- Participate in cross-functional project teams to drive product development initiatives.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of research and development activities.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and product specifications.
- Document all experimental procedures and results accurately.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food product development or related roles.
- Experience with sensory evaluation, food safety standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with data analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge:
- In-depth knowledge of food chemistry, microbiology, and processing.
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and other food safety standards.
- Understanding of food industry regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA, EFSA).
Work Environment:
- This position may require occasional travel to production facilities, conferences, and supplier sites.
